We have listed below the most common questions that we are asked about Tungum Tubing, which we hope you will find useful. If you have a specific question that is not covered here, please contact us.
Tungum has been used in oxygen applications for many years. Predominantly in the dive and hyperbaric industries.
More details on oxygen approvals can be found here.
Tungum tube, like all piping materials, expands and contracts with temperature changes potentially putting stress on the complete system. Such stresses are prevented by the use of expansion joints or by installing offsets, “U” bends, coil loops or similar arrangements in the tube assembly. These specially shaped tube segments take up expansion and contraction without excessive stress.
The expansion of a length of Tungum may be calculated using a recognised copper tube calculation. Please contact us for details.
There are many. We advise that you contact your supplier to check with them if they can approve the use of their solutions with copper based alloys such as Tungum. We will be very happy to help with supplying sample material for testing if needed. Please contact us with your question via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
The general approvals are to BS EN 12449 CW700R R430 and ASTM B706-TF00. Our in house specification is TCL100. For more details, please see our accreditations here or contact us via phone. Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
Yes. Our approval is: BS EN ISO9001:2015 Ref No. 85200-2010-AQ-GBR-UKAS (DNV GL). To view our latest certificate please click here
For more information please contact us via phone. Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
Yes. Please let us know what you require. The tolerance on a given cut length is generally +/- 2 mm.
Please contact us with your enquiry via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
Please contact us for a quote. All we need to know is the outside diameter, the wall thickness or maximum working pressure and the numbers of metres required. Please let us know if you require the tube pressure tested also. Please contact us with your enquiry via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
Yes. In fact Tungum becomes more stable in cryogenic environments.
Yes.
Tungum performs extremely well in saline environments. Please take a look at our case studies.
No, but we can recommend a company that can offer this service. Please contact us with your enquiry via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
We supply Tungum in what we call a “commercially” cleaned condition.
Our interpretation of “commercially” clean is:
“There shall be no dirt, swarf, contamination, machine oil or hydraulic test fluid remnants in the components or equipment when viewed by naked eye in good white inspection light conditions and by odour or wipe in the case of oils and fluids. There shall be no trace of cleaning materials or cleaning fluids left on or in the item cleaned.”
Please note that commercially clean does not mean that it is cleaned to an O₂ / oxygen standard.
Not as standard, but please get in touch if you have a requirement. Please note that orders may carry a minimum order quantity. Please contact us via phone Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290, or email sales@t2alloys.com
Not as standard but if you require a large enough amount we can quote you. Please contact us with your enquiry via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
No.
We recommend that you do not use Tungum on the process side of oil & gas production.
Tungum should not come into contact with Ammonia, Acetylene or Mercury.
This is very much dependant to your application. We have many real time applications & data that we can refer to so please contact us with your question via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
There are many. We advise that you contact your supplier of chemicals to check with them if they can approve the use of their solutions with copper based alloys such as Tungum. We will be very happy to help with supplying sample material for testing if needed. Please contact us with your question via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
We recommend that you cut Tungum with a hacksaw and do not use a tube cutter. Using a tube cutter can “neck” the end of the tube or work harden the area where a fittings bite ring would sit. Please see our Cutting Video video or contact us to discuss this further via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
We can carry out hydrostatic pressure testing to 1.5 times the maximum working pressure of the tube size you require. Please state that you require this service when requesting a price / quote. We can offer different pressures on request assuming the tube size can accommodate it.
T2 Alloys Limited is committed to ensuring that timber used in wooden packaging cases is sourced from legal and well managed forests. To assist us with this, we can confirm that the timber used is sourced from suppliers who are members of the PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) chain of custody schemes.
The whole process of manufacture and supply of Tungum is DNV approved. We can have your individual shipment DNV tested & witnessed too. Please let us know what testing or approval you need, and we will be happy to provide you with a quote.
Our standard length supplied is 19 foot / 5.79 metres. We can supply shorter lengths on request.
Brazing is a great way of forming a leak-free joint with Tungum. We can also supply the fittings needed too. Please see our Brazing Tugum video or contact us with your question via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
You can but we don’t recommend it. When you weld Tungum you greatly reduce its tensile strength and its corrosion resistance.
We recommend a minimum bend radius of 3 x D. You bend Tungum tubing as you would with stainless steel. No special tooling is required. Please see our Bending Tugum video or contact us with your question via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
You bend Tungum tubing as you would with St Steel. No special tooling is required. We recommend a minimum bend radius of 3 x D. Please see our Bending Tugum video or contact us with your question via phone or email Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
As a copper based alloy it is very ductile and easy to work with. Feedback from our clients is that it takes less than ¾ of the time to install Tungum than that of super duplex or austenitic stainless steels.
Please download Tungum Range & Availability from our website or contact us via phone or email to check what size wall thickness relates to your maximum working pressure. Tel. 00 44 (0)1684 271 290 or email sales@t2alloys.com
Almost any industry recognised instrumentation tube fitting can be used in conjunction with Tungum Tubing. From compression to flared, brazed to crimp type, Tungum is compatible. The most common type used is a 316 stainless steel compression fitting. 316 stainless steel sits close to Tungum on the Galvanic Scale and therefore will not preferentially corrode. The exception is common brass versions of couplings in which the tightening of the nut must be sufficient to deform the tube: these fitings are never strong enough to work on Tungum Alloy Tubing. Please check with us before you specify. See our video on Compression fittings with Tungum and Flaring Tungum.
We offer both metric and imperial sizes. For the full range of OD sizes, wall thicknesses & pressure ratings.
